1 - How to Open up to Healing

And if you want to repeat phrase by phrase, and those of you in the viewing and listening audience may repeat and join in this prayer with us if you choose.

Behold, I will bring you health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.

And if you'd like, I often just lay my hand on the text in token of gentle trust in the Lord.

And now I'll pray this prayer, phrase by phrase, if you'd like all to repeat together.

Dear Father in Heaven, We come to you through Jesus.

And we come asking And we come believing.

And we thank you that we are receiving, to the fullest extent of your infinite love and wisdom.

In the gospel, teaching and healing are never to be separated.

Jesus united them completely and altogether throughout his entire ministry.

If you'd like to open the Bible with me to Acts the 10th chapter and the 38th verse, let us read this again together, Shall we?

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with him.

Jesus Christ tells us that the gospel is not just teaching, the gospel is teaching and healing.

The healing of the soul, the healing of the body, the healing of the mind.

In Isaiah the 53rd chapter and the fifth verse it says, with his stripes we're healed.

And it is true, as we shall learn later, that the full results of the atonement will not be realized until we are resurrected from the dead The redemption of the body you see is all involved in the atonement but healing and teaching belong together it did in the life of Christ and Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever isn't he Hebrews 13 8 and so as we study together those of you in your homes those of us here in this family together, we're going to open our Bibles to Mark, the 16th chapter, verses 17 and 18.

He was just about to leave his disciples, and this is a promise that my wife and I have claimed again and again I'm sure that our pastor who is sitting beside me Pastor Verste has used this many times in his ministry also.

Mark 16 verses 17 and 18 shall we all read it together.

And these signs shall follow them that believe.

They shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them.

They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.

I'm thinking right now of that lovely daughter of a Methodist minister that was lying in the hospital in a dying condition.

The death rattle was in her throat at that time and my wife and I claimed this promise and I still remember as we were claiming the promise we were saying to the Lord something like this, dear Lord we didn't think up this idea of laying our hands on this girl.

It's merely because we're followers of Jesus.

He said, you may lay hands on the sick and they will recover.

So as we were saying to the Lord, it's not our idea.

We have no we accept no credit whatsoever.

And we laid our hands on this precious little angel-like girl and we said Lord you've promised now we don't know at what time she'll get well we're not going to tell you what to do we're not going to command you Lord We're going to take hold of your willingness your eagerness because you love her and you love us and your wisdom far surpasses our puny a creaturely wisdom but dear Lord Jesus died for this girl.

And then gently we laid our hands on her and we said, Lord, if it may please you to rebuke the devil and the power of the devil on her, thank you for healing her.

And then we add these words and we make it a practice always to add these words to the fullest extent of your infinite love and wisdom.

You see that makes it a commitment, but it doesn't go around talking about it as though we didn't expect it.

It makes it a positive statement to the fullest extent of your infinite love and wisdom.

The death rattle left her throat immediately.

The next afternoon at 03:00, she sat up and ate and went home.

And I wonder, Damon and Mary Lou, would you sing a stanza of that song?

This is my favorite of all the songs in all the hymn books.

And then I think in the book that we're singing from, it's 276, isn't it, Pastor?

And after the Imman and Mary Lou sing the first stanza, we will join with them, if you'd like, and those of you in the audience, in the viewing audience, the listening audience, may want to unite with us on the second stanza.

I Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine.

For Thee, of the follies of sin I resign.

My gracious Redeemer, my Savior, Lord, love.

I love thee because thou hast first loved me, And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree.

I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow, And you'll notice that third stanza, and I'm wondering if Dottie would join Mary Lou and Damon in singing that third stanza a moment.

I'll love thee in life, I'll love thee in death, I'll love thee as long as thou lendest me breath.

This shows the commitment in our hearts as we're praying for healing.

We're not trying to put him in his place.

We're merely taking advantage of his wonderful eagerness and his extreme willingness and whether we live or whether we die we'll be praising him.

Me in death, and praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath, and say when the death when the death do lies cold on my brow.

If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, it is now.

Let us all, including the audience, sing the last stanza, shall we?

In mansions of glory and endless delight, of glory and endless delight.

I'll ever adore thee in heaven so bright.

I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow.

If ever I love Thee, my Jesus, to His mouth.

I want to tell you that represents our hearts.

Now, we want you to notice with us and the viewing audience, the listening audience also, who is authorized to pray for the sick.

We just read in Mark 16, 17, 18, these signs shall follow them that believe.

You know, there are a lot of people in the world today who have the impression that the only individual who has the right to pray for the sick is an ordained minister.

Song of Songs

Heavenly Father, we cannot thank you enough for the grace of God that comes by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As our Father, you are the source of all wisdom, and we have committed as your children to submit to your guidance and to your leadership.

We pray Lord that as we go through your word, as we meditate on the song of songs, that you would speak to our hearts in a very personal way, that you may move us to know the Lord.

We thank you for hearing and answering this prayer, and we trust that you will help this to be our experience.

Take your Bibles, turn to the book Song of Songs.

If you have an older version, in Latin they call it Canticles.

If you go to a Spanish speaking or Portuguese speaking or French speaking, you'll notice that title.

Song of Songs or Song of Solomon, Chapter 1.

When you're there, if you could say amen.

Some years ago I had begun a journey of discovering the love of God in the Old Testament.

Many people that I would give Bible studies to, that I would try to share the gospel with, they would always say the Old Testament God is a different God from the New Testament God.

And maybe you've heard the fact that the Old Testament God is misogynistic, he's genocidal, he's apt and thirsty for blood, constantly sending his people into wars and to destroy nations.

Every man, every woman, every boy, every girl, even the livestock.

And so there was a firm belief in many people's minds that the God of the Old Testament is not the God of the New Testament.

And some people have developed this into a theology that they call dispensationalism.

That God relates to different people in different ways at different times.

So in Noah's day salvation was to get on the ark but in our day it's faith in Christ.

In the days of Elijah it was to come aside to the true God but in the days of the apostles it was to become a disciple of Jesus.

Different dispensations require different things and obviously we don't believe that.

And so I began on a journey to discover the love of God in the Old Testament.

And so 1 of the books in the Old Testament is the book Song of Songs.

Now if you'll notice with me in chapter 1 verse 1, the Bible says, The song of songs which is Solomon's.

Now the first thing you notice about this verse is the superlative.

You don't know that you understand this better than you think.

Maybe you've heard the title, the King of Kings.

Or maybe you've heard the title, the Lord of Lords.

So you see, in the Bible, in Hebrew, the concept of repetition is to deepen impression, but also to take to the very essence of a thing.

So as a result, in the Bible, it's not called the most holy place in the sanctuary.

It is actually called the holy of holies in Exodus 29, in verse 37.

Then you have in Deuteronomy chapter 10, in verse 14, the Bible says that God who comes from the heaven of heavens.

Yes, there's heavens where the birds fly, then there's heavens where the stars are, and then there's heaven where God is.

Maybe you've heard Solomon say in Ecclesiastes, Vanity of vanities.

You see the concept here is that Solomon says, Out of all the songs that I have ever written.

And the Bible says in 1 Kings 4, verse 32, that Solomon wrote 1005 songs.

This brother, who knows how many times he would have gone platinum in his day, if they had such a thing.

But the Bible says that Solomon wrote 1, 005 songs.

But yet only 1 book, only 1 song does Solomon begin by saying, This is the song of songs.

Out of a thousand and 5, this 1 is the song of songs.

This is the essence of why a song is written, Solomon says.

But you see, in the Bible, a song wasn't just something you sang for worship.

It wasn't just something that you did with your kids to help them learn, you know, different sounds and words and to practice through rhyming.

It wasn't just something you listened to in your car on the way to work.

It wasn't just something you put on your Hebrew iPod as you were going about your business, tending your sheep in the fields.

A song was representative of an experience.

And so in Exodus Chapter 15 and verse 1, when God spread the Red Sea and they decided to come to the other side and Pharaoh's army was drowned into the Red Sea.

The Bible says the people of God and Moses sang this song unto the Lord.

And he is our God and I will prepare him a habitation my father's God and I will exalt him the Lord is a man of war." They were singing a song of experience And guess what?

The only people singing that song were the ones that had that experience.

Then you may go over to Deuteronomy and the Bible says there is the song of Moses.

And as Moses was singing to the Israelites, which the song was not just a song, it was also a prophecy.

It wasn't just a prophecy, it was also a blessing on every tribe.

And this is the song where we get the phrase, leaning on the everlasting arms.

This is the song where we get day by day and with each passing moment and Solomon says, and if to the tribe of Asher, as your days so shall your strength be.

This is the song of Moses, a man who understood what it was like to be burdened in a day.

A man who knew what it was like to get tired.

A man who knew what it was like for his brother and sister to become jealous of him because of his wife, because she was darker than the other rest of the Israelites.

This was a man who watched his brother die, who watched his sister sit in leprosy for 7 days.

This is a man who was almost killed on his way to do what God told him to do because he didn't circumcise his son.

This is a man who made an ultimate mistake and thought he would never fulfill God's purpose for his life.

This is a man who was used to deliver a nation from slavery.

This is a man who climbed to the top of Mount Nebo and saw the promised land but could not enter because of 1 mistake.

And this man said, in my experience, as your days, so shall your strength be.

Then you go to Deborah and Barak in Judges chapter 5.

And they had conquered Sisera and his army.

And they began to sing a song about this victory, the song of victory.

I can go through so many different things in the Bible about the song of experiences.

But 1 thing that is also very famous Is the fact that in Isaiah chapter 5 God has a song about his people the song of his beloved About his vineyard that he had made in Isaiah chapter 5 But I want you to know That as Solomon brings up this whole experience of the Song of Songs.

What he is saying, first of all, is that this book, this song, even though it has many different elements, it is 1 song.

It is a unified piece, it is a unified experience.

But not only is Solomon making this point, Solomon is also making the point that this is my song.

This is not the song of songs for every human being, but this is the song of songs that is mine, that is Solomon's.

And immediately it confronts the Bible reader and it confronts every member in the Moore's Seventh-day Adventist Church.

What is the song of song in your experience?

If you were to get to heaven and you were to be stopped by an angel and an angel said, sister what is your song?

What is the song that summarizes your experience?

What was the essence, the deepest, the most profound, the most moving, the most radically changing experience in your journey on earth?

You see, this is why even in Revelation, it says the 144, 000, they sing a song that no man can learn.

Yes, Lord

Well, I bring you greetings from all around the world on behalf of R3 Ministries.

R3 is not only the name of our organization, but it is the philosophy of our organization.

We wanted to supply our identity along with our mission all in 1 because you can't separate identity and mission.

Identity drives mission and mission drives identity.

The more you understand who you are and what you were created to do, the more likely you are to do it.

And the more you do what you were created to do, the more you remember who you are.

This is why the Seventh-day Adventist Church and any Christian church, if it understands its identity, will always be active the way Jesus was active.

And the more active the church is, the more it will remember why it exists.

There will be no concern about why the doctors need to be adjusted.

There will be no concern about the standards, whether lowered or hired or adjusted, because we understand who we are as we continue to do what we were called to do.

So with our 3, we've broken down this into 3 words.

We are told that if we would supply youth with an ability to focus their attention on Jesus, then the soul has found its center.

And in finding its center in Jesus, everything else has meaning as it is connected to him.

So as a result, Any activity that we do must be redeeming it must be Christ centered It must present Jesus not only in its action or in its words or in its ministry But it must present Jesus in its spirit in the way in which it is done There are many people who are doing God's will but not God's way.

There are many people preaching God's truth but not through his spirit and as a result they're doing more damage than good.

And so for us before we go to anything else about mission, activities, business, here and there, principles of operation or policy, we believe Jesus must be the center of everything.

He is the reason why, He is the method how, He is the actual content and he is the ultimate end It's all in all in Christ As a result we move on from there to say that some people will agree with that principle and say yes Everything is redeeming Everything is Christ centered as if that means we are not to be rational beings.

We are not to use our minds We're not to think through what we are doing and so as a result our second Principle in our philosophy and identity is rational There is a difference between rationalism and being rational.

It suggests that the way to arrive at truth or understanding is through reason in your own thinking and mind.

But if everything is Christ-centered, we must not depend only on our rational reasoning we must depend on revelation Can you say amen?

Therefore as a result we believe that our 3 that things that we do must be Christ centered, but well thought-out understood researched But for some reason people think oh no we just preach Jesus We don't have to think about what we're going to do.

That's a mistake, because Paul was an educated man.

And as an educated man, he did more for the gospel than the uneducated people.

The greatest evangelist in the New Testament, and wrote a third of the New Testament.

Because Ellen White says, he was more educated.

And Greater education increases the ability of influence and reach and impact Some of us will never reach judges or city councilmen or lawyers or doctors because we put down education We put down reading we put down being intellectual check out the newspaper get off of YouTube and pick up a book And as a result, we're never going to reach those people with the gospel Because they're looking at you and you're saying well, I don't think college is that important.

Not only does he have a PhD in law, please, please pray you don't fall into his hands in the court of law, Because he will remember the conversation.

You know why you're standing before me in this courtroom?

Because if people read, the law wouldn't be here.

And not only read the law, obeyed the law.

And now he's the 1 judging you, determining whether you be free or not.

It's always been said when I was growing up in school, my middle school teacher, she sensed that I was playing dumb in school.

Sit in class for some reason in middle school, in high school, we think it's cool to be stupid.

I don't understand that, but I was a part of it.

You sit in the back of the class slouching in the seat, act like you don't care about the class, that you don't want to learn anything, I'm too hard for social studies.

As a result, my teacher pulled me aside because she's looking at my homework.

She's looking at my exams, and she's like, Sebastian, something's not adding up.

She's like, Sebastian, you get 100 on the exam.

Your Homework is perfect, but when we're in class, you're not answering no questions, you don't know anything.

She's like, Sebastian, I'm going to tell you something.

Number 3, and this is the 1 that got me, she said, 1 day you'll be paying the other people in the class.

They'll be in your office wondering if they can get a job.

And their livelihood to provide for their children and their families will depend on your willingness to recognize whether they have potential or not.

You may make fun of the brother with all As.

You'll be in his office asking for a job.

And you'll be wearing his clothes on your back.

You'll be buying his computers in the store.

You'll be over there at his car lot trying to buy 1 of his vehicles that he built and designed Because he's a nerd But you over here look.

Oh, I love the Lamborghini I love the Porsche guess who designed it a man who wasn't sitting in the back of the class acting stupid Yes, sir.

So in this sense, shock me out of my pants.

So as a result, for R3, we're like, listen, just because it is Christ-centered, this doesn't mean check out of your mind and don't read don't do your research.

Don't think I'm all for the health message that doesn't mean medicine has nothing to contribute and I have friends on both sides of the argument Medical doctors who look at all medical myths.

They're all crackety crooks doing crazy stuff with crazy herbs.

Then you got people on the other side, these med, all they wanna do is medicate you to death.

I walked into a lady's house, she had a pack this long, medication for the day.

Take this 1 before breakfast, after breakfast.

This is for, I'm like, this is ridiculous.

So on both sides you say let's be rational about this.
